Smoke Bouie announced his allegiance to the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s a familiar phrase to those who follow college football and recruiting in Georgia.
The defensive back originally signed up for Georgia when he was in Bainbridge High School. From November 1, 2020 to June 8, 2021, Bouie was part of the Class of 2022 for UGA. Bouie disengaged from Georgia and eventually followed former Georgia defensive quality control coach Nick Williams to Texas A&M.
Bouie was part of a legendary recruiting class that Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies built during the last recruiting round. However, after a 5-7 season at College Station, A&M saw 25 players hitting the transfer gate. Bouie was one of the most important and one of the few that Georgia remained interested in exiting counterpart SEC West.
Bouie will have another four years of eligibility when he joins Georgia. Bouie only played four games for A&M in the 2022 season. Bouie recorded four tackles and one pass deflection in games against Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Florida and Massachusetts.
It really is a moment of closure for Bouie and Georgia. The former four-star prospect was ranked No. 120 overall for the Class of 2022. As a rookie, Bouie helped lead the Bainbridge Bearcats to a state championship win over a talented Warner Robins team.
Bainbridge native Kirby Smart was in attendance and was very impressed with Bouie. The speedster received his offer from the Georgia Bulldogs the very next day. It says a lot that Georgia never gave up on their pursuit of Bouie, even with a knee injury and a detour to College Station.
